Bexar County Indicts Suspect in Actor Jonathan Joss’s Shooting Murder

Bexar County has indicted a man in the shooting murder of actor Jonathan Joss, which occurred earlier this year. Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 57, is now facing a murder charge for the incident that took place on June 1.
Incident Details
The shooting happened around 7 p.m. in the 200 block of Dorsey Drive near Pleasanton Road. Notably, this location was also where Joss’s home experienced a fire on January 23.
Events Leading to the Shooting
According to the San Antonio Police Department’s report, Joss was at the scene to check his mail. A witness observed Alvarez parking behind Joss’s vehicle and engaging in a verbal altercation with him. During this confrontation, Alvarez allegedly threatened to shoot Joss before using a rifle to carry out the act.
Aftermath and Legal Proceedings
Joss, aged 59, was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the shooting, Alvarez was detained by law enforcement and reportedly confessed, stating, “I shot him.” He was later released from jail three days post-incident after a judge set his bond at $200,000.
Defense Claims
In a statement made on June 24, Alvarez’s attorney, Nico LaHood, argued that his client acted in self-defense. LaHood emphasized Texas laws that allow individuals to protect themselves and others, stating, “You have a right to self-defense.”
Current Status
Alvarez’s case has been assigned to the Bexar County’s 437th Criminal District Court, with Judge Joel Perez presiding. Details regarding Alvarez’s next court appearance have yet to be disclosed.
