National Trust Reopens Christmas Shops for Holiday Season

The National Trust celebrates the holiday season by reopening its Christmas shops, providing a festive shopping experience for visitors. This year, the focus is on traditional gifts that embody the spirit of the season.
Victorian Era Shop Experience
The Cornet Street store features a Victorian-themed atmosphere. Its manager, Caro Drake, highlights the significance of capturing a historic feel with various classic gifts. Popular items include:
- Classic sweets like jelly babies and liquorice
- Posters depicting Guernsey’s tides and moon phases
- Decorative cards and festive decorations
- Handmade knitted items
- Tins, coasters, and more
Drake mentioned the extensive effort that goes into preparing for the holiday season, stating, “It takes a few months to put everything together.” She expressed optimism about customer turnout, noting a loyalty among repeat shoppers.
Variety of Festive Offerings
The museum shop manager, Ann Segers, also highlighted the vast array of products available. Many of these items have been prepared since June, ensuring a well-stocked shop this Christmas. Some featured products include:
- Chocolates and sweets
- Homemade jams
- Wooden toys for children
- Books and soaps
- Tea towels and stained glassware
Segers mentioned that customers can enjoy free mulled wine every Friday. The space is maximized for inventory, anticipating a quick sell-out of popular items.
Upcoming Christmas Market
To further enhance the holiday spirit, a Christmas market is scheduled for Monday, December 8, from 5 PM to 8 PM in the museum courtyard. Visitors are encouraged to explore the unique gifts available before the shops close on Saturday, December 20.
Shop Hours
