Ireland Braces for Icy Grip as Snow and Frost Loom

As winter approaches, Ireland is preparing for a dramatic weather shift. Following an extended period of rainfall, the nation is bracing for ice and frost as temperatures are predicted to plummet over the coming days.

Icy Grip Takes Hold of Ireland

The latest weather forecasts indicate a drop in temperatures, reaching freezing or slightly below. This shift is expected to start overnight on Sunday, November 16, and continue throughout the week. Daytime highs will range between 6 to 10 degrees Celsius across much of Munster, with conditions feeling much colder due to a stable high-pressure system settling in.

Weather Warnings and Conditions

In recent days, Cork was under three Yellow Alerts and one Orange Alert due to heavy rainfall associated with Storm Claudia. As the rain subsides, the threat of frost and ice increases, creating hazardous conditions on roads, particularly in isolated or exposed areas.

By Tuesday morning, residents should prepare for the possibility of frost and even freezing fog. Additionally, there is a potential for snow in northern and Midland regions by Thursday.

Forecast Overview

  • Tonight (November 15): Cloudy with light rain and drizzle, temperatures between 6 to 9 degrees Celsius.

While the most severe weather is expected in the north and midlands, central Europe is also preparing for significant drops in temperature. A 500-mile snow front is anticipated to stretch from Scotland down to London by Wednesday morning.

Ireland’s weather will remain unsettled as temperatures fluctuate throughout the week, signaling the onset of winter conditions across the region.
