Success at Buxton FC

During his first season at Buxton, McGrath guided the team to a 7th place finish, qualifying for the playoffs on goal difference. They reached the quarter-finals but were eliminated by Chester.

The following season saw further improvement. Buxton finished 5th in the league, ranking among the top five for both scoring and defensive performance, as well as being the second-best team away from home.
