Fleetwood Town’s Denver Hume Recuperates from Brain Hemorrhage

Denver Hume, a defender for Fleetwood Town, is currently recovering from a serious health scare involving a bleed on the brain. This incident occurred during a seemingly harmless collision in training last month.
Recovery Update from Fleetwood Town’s Manager
Pete Wild, the manager of Fleetwood Town, expressed shock over the severity of Hume’s condition. He revealed that the player has undergone extensive testing for the past four to five weeks. Fortunately, Wild noted that medical assessments indicate Hume’s injury will heal and that he is making progress.
“He’s still got a lot to process mentally from the incident,” Wild shared on BBC Radio Lancashire. “It’s certainly knocked him and us for six because it was so innocuous.”
Gradual Return to Physical Activity
Currently, Hume has been cleared for very light exercises as part of his rehabilitation. The coach emphasized that the player’s welfare is the main priority, saying: “We’ve got fantastic medical staff here who will support him through this process.” Fleetwood Town plans to take Hume’s recovery one step at a time.
- Next follow-up appointment: January
- Potential return to physical activity: Uncertain as it depends on Hume’s reaction to training
Denver Hume’s Career Background
Hume, 27, started his professional football career with Sunderland. He has also played for Portsmouth and Grimsby before joining Fleetwood Town on a two-year contract last summer. This season, Hume has made 11 appearances for the club.
Future Outlook
While Pete Wild mentioned that there is a possibility of Hume returning to the field before the end of the season, he refrained from making definitive statements. “It will be down to how he reacts to coming back to physical fitness and mentally to contact football,” he explained.
Reflecting on the collision that led to Hume’s injury, Wild described it as a moment that brings perspective. “When the extent of it came out over the next 24-48 hours… It makes you think about what’s really important in life.”
Despite the challenges he faces post-injury, Wild noted that Hume seems to be in good spirits and is eager to regain a sense of normalcy. “He’s trying to get back to a bit of normality, which is pleasing,” he concluded.
