85-Year-Old Joins Dozens for Stonehenge Sleep-Out Event

On the evening of November 14, over 100 participants gathered at Stonehenge for Alabaré’s BIG Sleep event. This annual initiative aims to support veterans experiencing homelessness in the South West region. With one in every 400 ex-military personnel classified as homeless, this event highlights an urgent humanitarian issue.
85-Year-Old Joins Stonehenge Sleep-Out Event
Among the attendees was 85-year-old Ted Uren. A dedicated supporter of Alabaré, Uren has participated in the BIG Sleep event at Salisbury Cathedral for 15 years. His choice to join the historic sleep-out at Stonehenge was driven by the opportunity to experience a night at one of the world’s most iconic ancient monuments.
Inspiration for the Event
Uren expressed excitement about the unique venue. He stated, “The idea of sleeping out at one of the most famous ancient monuments in the world was too good to miss.” He also reflected on the importance of community cooperation required to construct Stonehenge, emphasizing a shared commitment and social collaboration.
Community Engagement and Support
Supporting the charity brings Uren immense joy. He noted, “The idea that I can still help, but also mixing with younger people, it’s absolute delight.” Uren particularly enjoys engaging with school children who contribute to the cause, likening the experience to a “flock of birds.”
