Black Stars Squad: Why Partey, Kudus, Ayew Were Dropped

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) recently announced a strategic decision regarding the Black Stars squad for the upcoming Kirin Challenge Cup. Several prominent players, including Thomas Partey, Kudus Mohammed, Jordan Ayew, and Alexander Djiku, will not participate in the friendly matches against Japan and South Korea.

Reasons for Player Exclusions

Henry Asante Twum, the GFA’s Communications Director, explained the rationale behind the selection choices. Key factors included:

  • Rest for key players.
  • Mutual agreement for player recovery.
  • Existing injuries and fitness concerns among some players.

The association emphasized that the absence of these players was based on legitimate reasons rather than travel-related issues.

Focus on Player Development

The GFA aims to utilize this opportunity to assess new talents within the squad. Twum expressed confidence in the potential of the younger players called up for these matches. He stated that the friendly games are intended to:

  • Evaluate specific aspects of the team.
  • Identify the best talent for future competitions.

Upcoming Matches and Preparations

The Black Stars are set to conduct their final training session at Toyota Stadium in Aichi on November 13, 2025. They will face Japan on November 14 and travel to South Korea for another match on November 18, 2025.

This strategic approach highlights the GFA’s focus on maintaining player health while simultaneously scouting new talent for the national team.
