Anita Dobson’s Charity Work

Dobson expressed that her career has allowed her to contribute significantly to various charity organizations. She noted, “It’s been an awful lot of pleasure, as well as I hope, bringing support to people that need it.” The actress serves as a patron for several charities, including:

  • Thames Hospice
  • Focus Foundation

Focus on Children

Among the causes she champions, Dobson has a particular passion for initiatives that support children. “They’re our future – and the hope for this world, which is in a terrible state at the moment,” she said. She aims to get more involved with organizations like the Sick Children’s Trust, despite not having contributed as much as she wishes.

Dobson’s commitment to Thames Hospice is strong, as she frequently visits patients and contributes wherever possible. “Whatever the cause, I try to fulfill something if I can,” she added.

Return to EastEnders

Earlier this year, Dobson made a return to the iconic soap opera EastEnders to celebrate its 40th anniversary. She appeared in a vision supporting her on-screen daughter, Sharon Watts, during a dramatic moment in the show. This particular scene won the Scene of the Year award at the 2025 British Soap Awards.

Reflecting on her return, Dobson said, “I thought, am I doing the right thing going back? But I’m so glad I did it, it was quite magical.” She described the experience as moving, especially given her history with co-star Letitia Dean.

Career Highlights and Personal Life

Throughout her career, Dobson has also made memorable appearances in “Doctor Who” as Mrs. Flood. Her character, revealed during Ncuti Gatwa’s second season, was a disguised incarnation of the villainous Rani. Born in 1949 in London, Dobson has enjoyed a diverse acting career, which includes roles in “Casualty” and “Inside No 9.”

Since 2000, she has been married to Brian May, enriching her life with both personal and collaborative achievements. Anita Dobson’s recognition as OBE highlights her significant impact both in entertainment and charitable endeavors.
