Fully Remastered 2008 RPG Returns Today

THQ Nordic has officially released a remastered version of the classic 2008 RPG, Sacred 2: Fallen Angel. Originally developed by Ascaron, Sacred 2 serves as a prequel to the 2004 title, Sacred. This remaster rejuvenates the game for a new generation of players, while also bringing back nostalgic memories for long-time fans.

Overview of Sacred 2 Remaster

Sacred 2 is set in a vast fantasy world, taking place 2,000 years before the original game. Players can select from seven character classes, engaging in either single-player or online multiplayer modes. The gameplay features an action RPG style reminiscent of titles like Diablo 2, yet with its unique storyline elements similar to World of Warcraft.

Key Features of the Remaster

  • Enhanced graphics for a modern gaming experience.
  • Full controller support.
  • Refined combat mechanics.
  • Includes the original Sacred 2 Gold for players interested in the classic edition.

Despite these upgrades, the remaster has faced criticism for removing several features from the original game. Notably, the multiplayer experience is limited to PC users, with no couch co-op options on consoles. Additionally, competitive modes and trading capabilities have been eliminated, which has disappointed some fans.

What’s Next for the Sacred Series?

Franz Stradal, one of the original creators of Sacred, discussed future plans in a developer diary. He hinted at exciting developments ahead for the series, stating, “Sacred is now back, but it’s not the end, it’s just the beginning.” Stradal expressed enthusiasm about exploring new stories set in the world of Ancaria.

While the future of the Sacred series remains uncertain, there are potential projects in the works. A new installment could return to the series’ action RPG roots, while a full remake of the original Sacred may also be on the horizon. However, both projects appear to be in the early stages of development.

Reception and Challenges

Initial reviews for the Sacred 2 Remaster have been mixed, with several players reporting bugs and crashes. These issues have sparked discussions about the need for patches and updates. The hope is that the team will address these early challenges to enhance the gaming experience.

As the Sacred series makes its return, fans remain optimistic about the possibilities that lie ahead. With a dedicated community awaiting new adventures in Ancaria, the future for Sacred could be promising, provided the remaster can overcome its current obstacles.
