Quentin Grimes Joins CAA for Representation

Quentin Grimes, a 25-year-old guard, has made significant changes to his career direction by joining Creative Artists Agency (CAA) for representation. This change comes after a complex offseason where he returned to the Philadelphia 76ers by signing a one-year qualifying offer worth $8.7 million.

Grimes’ Career and Representation Shift

Grimes switched from his previous agent, David Bauman, who currently lacks any clients with guaranteed NBA contracts. CAA, the agency representing Grimes, has an impressive roster of NBA stars, including Devin Booker, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Donovan Mitchell. Notably, Paul George and Kelly Oubre Jr. from the Sixers are also represented by CAA.

Offseason Negotiations

The negotiation process during the offseason was unusual. Grimes started discussions seeking an annual salary of $30 million, which later adjusted to between $20 million and $25 million. These figures proved unrealistic as no other teams had the necessary salary cap space to provide such offers.

  • The non-taxpayer mid-level exception for teams was set at $14.1 million.
  • Experts believed a more reasonable year-on-year figure would be around $15 million.
  • Ultimately, the Sixers were positioned to offer Grimes more than any other team could.

Despite the possibility of a more favorable long-term contract, negotiations didn’t progress. There were indications that Grimes might accept a one-year balloon deal to facilitate a future trade. Instead, he finalized his deal with the Sixers, which included a no-trade clause.

Current Performance

As of the 2025-26 NBA season, Grimes has shown strong performance, averaging 17.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists over 10 games. His shooting from three-point range stands at 39.7 percent, highlighting his value on the court.

Future Outlook

Grimes is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. While his future remains uncertain, there is a possibility of him returning to the Philadelphia 76ers. How this plays out will depend on various factors, including his performance and potential negotiations following his representation change.
