Polish Independence Day: Presidential Couple Lays Wreaths at Independence Heroes Monuments

On November 11, Poland celebrates its National Independence Day, marking a pivotal event in its history. This year, the country observes the 107th anniversary of its regained independence. The main ceremonies are set to occur at Piłsudski Square in Warsaw, attended by President Karol Nawrocki and the First Lady.

Wreath-Laying Ceremonies

Before the main celebrations, President Nawrocki and his wife honored the country’s founders by laying wreaths at various Independence Heroes monuments. These acts of remembrance are a significant part of the day’s activities.

Historical Background

National Independence Day commemorates the transfer of military leadership to Józef Piłsudski by the Regency Council in 1918. The holiday was first established by the Polish Sejm in 1937, but it was abolished in 1945 and observed unofficially during the communist era. It was restored in 1989, subsequent to a legislative change, and has since been recognized as a public holiday.

Events Across the Country

The celebrations include various events nationwide, encompassing:

  • Mass marches
  • Concerts and dance events
  • Sporting competitions
  • Emergency service drills

This year’s festivities will kick off in the morning and culminate with the annual nationalist march, which begins at 2 PM from Rondo Dmowskiego. The theme for this year’s march is “One Nation, Strong Poland.” President Nawrocki has confirmed his participation in this significant event.

El-Balad will provide continuous coverage of the National Independence Day celebrations, highlighting the events and the community spirit surrounding this important occasion.
