Elizabeth Line Closure Disrupts Woolwich and Abbey Wood This Weekend

Rail travelers from Woolwich and Abbey Wood should prepare for significant disruptions this weekend, as the Elizabeth Line undergoes engineering works. The line will be closed from Paddington to Abbey Wood and Stratford across both Saturday and Sunday. This closure affects the entire section that runs through central London.

Service Restrictions on the Elizabeth Line

Travelers heading to Heathrow will also encounter service interruptions. Trains will only operate between Paddington to Reading and Liverpool Street to Shenfield during this period.

Alternative Travel Options

Despite these changes, alternative services remain available. Southeastern and Thameslink trains will continue to operate from Woolwich and Abbey Wood into central London. Additionally, passengers trying to travel out of the capital on Sunday will find a complete halt of services between Dartford and Rochester. During this time, bus transportation will be provided.

Further Weekend Disruptions

On both days, the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) will also experience disruptions. There will be no trains running between Canning Town and Stratford International. Passengers are advised to utilize the Jubilee Line or local bus services as alternatives.

Upcoming Closures and Maintenance

Looking ahead, the next planned weekend closure for the Elizabeth Line at Woolwich and Abbey Wood is scheduled for March 21 and 22. According to Transport for London’s long-term engineering schedule, there will be additional service interruptions in the coming weeks. Key dates include:

  • Woolwich station opening at 10 AM on November 30 and December 7
  • No service on Boxing Day
  • Delayed opening at 11:30 AM on February 15, 22, and March 1
