Christmas Market Extended Due to Record-Breaking Attendance

A beloved Christmas market in Tenterden is set to return, featuring an extensive array of traders showcasing their goods for ten days. With a boost from previous years’ successes, the market will feature over 100 stalls, significantly expanding from just three days in 2024.
Extended Christmas Market Dates
The Tenterden Christmas Market will kick off at midday on Friday, November 14, and is scheduled to run until November 20. The market will be held along the High Street, stretching from Ozgur’s restaurant to Station Road.
From November 21 to 23, the market will expand further into East Cross. This extension is a response to record-breaking attendance in recent years.
Traders and Attractions
- Craft stalls
- Gift vendors
- Street food from various cuisines including Thai, Mexican, Indian, and Greek
Visitors can expect a plethora of gifts, including food, drink, and handcrafted items. The market will be beautifully set against the backdrop of local independent shops and cafes.
Entertainment and Activities
The Christmas market will also feature live entertainment, particularly musical performances on Fridays and weekends. Attendees can enjoy wood turning demonstrations throughout the week and engaging magic trick activities.
According to Ashford Borough Council councillor Pam Smith, the decision to extend the market reflects its growing popularity. The Tory representative for Tenterden South ward noted, “It has evolved a lot over time and is a good thing for the town.” Originally just a one-night event over 30 years ago, the market has seen significant growth, requiring professional management.
As the main Christmas lights are currently being installed, they will be officially switched on at the start of the market, adding to the festive spirit. Smith believes that every effort to attract visitors to Tenterden is beneficial, contributing to increased foot traffic for local shops.
The Tenterden Christmas Market promises to be a vibrant event, bringing excitement and joy to the community.
