Visual Effects Society to Honor Jon Favreau

Jon Favreau is set to be honored as an Honorary Member of the Visual Effects Society (VES) during the upcoming VES Honors Celebration. This event will take place on November 7th at the new Sony Pictures Imageworks facility in Los Angeles.

Jon Favreau: A Trailblazer in Visual Effects

The VES Board of Directors selected Favreau from a prestigious group of candidates nominated by members. His contributions have significantly impacted the visual effects (VFX) industry and continue to shape its future.

According to Kim Davidson, the VES Board Chair, the annual VES Honors Celebration is a platform to recognize industry contributors. Each honoree has played a vital role in elevating the VFX craft and the sector as a whole.

Notable Achievements

  • Directed Iron Man (2008) and Iron Man 2, which collectively grossed $1.3 billion.
  • Directed acclaimed adaptations such as The Jungle Book (2016) and The Lion King (2019), the latter grossing over $1.6 billion worldwide.
  • Created the successful Disney+ series The Mandalorian, which garnered 52 Emmy nominations and 15 wins.
  • Served as an executive producer for other notable series including The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka.

Future Projects

Favreau has recently completed filming for the new installment of the Star Wars franchise, The Mandalorian & Grogu, set to release on May 22, 2026. He is also working on a Disney+ series centered on Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

Honors and Recognition

Throughout his career, Favreau has earned numerous accolades. He received the Visual Effects Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. Additionally, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2023 and was named a Disney Legend in 2019.
