Stolarz Exits After Conceding Four Goals in Maple Leafs’ Clash with Bruins
In the recent NHL matchup, Anthony Stolarz faced a challenging game for the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Boston Bruins. He was replaced in net after conceding four goals on just 19 shots within a span of a period and a half. This marked the first time that Stolarz was pulled for non-injury reasons since joining the Maple Leafs, as reported by David Alter from The Hockey News.
Stolarz’s Performance Decline
Stolarz, who experienced a commendable first season performance, has struggled this year. Last season, during the 2024-25 campaign, he achieved a 2.14 goals-against average (GAA) and led the league with a .926 save percentage across 34 games. However, the current season has seen marked struggles. As of Saturday, Stolarz held an .895 save percentage and a GAA of 3.11 after participating in 11 games.
Stolarz’s Reflections
In an interview with TSN’s Mark Masters, Stolarz expressed concerns about his performance, mentioning, “I feel like I’m giving up one goal a game that I kind of want back.” Despite these challenges, Stolarz has been a key player for the team, starting 12 out of 15 games this season.
Issues in Goalkeeping Rotation
The absence of goalkeeper Justin Woll, who has been away addressing personal matters, has placed additional pressure on Stolarz. Woll rejoined the Maple Leafs earlier this week but has not played in the NHL yet. Instead, he reported to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL for conditioning.
Woll’s Return and Impact
- Woll made his first start with the Marlies on Saturday.
- During that game, he allowed three goals on 24 shots and was pulled midway through the second period.
Woll acknowledged Stolarz’s effort, stating, “I appreciate the work [Stolarz has] done… It’s not an easy thing to do. He’s been awesome.” A timeline for Woll’s return to the Maple Leafs has yet to be announced.
