Pacers Waive McClung, Sign Morris

The Indiana Pacers have announced significant roster changes, waiving guard Mac McClung and signing veteran Monte Morris. This decision comes in response to the team’s recent struggles and a series of injuries impacting their player rotation.
Pacers Waive McClung
Mac McClung, the reigning three-time NBA slam-dunk contest champion, signed a two-year contract with the Pacers just last week. His tenure with the team was short-lived, as he averaged 6.3 points over 11.3 minutes in three games. The decision to waive McClung will result in a salary cap hit of $164,060 for the Pacers this season.
Signing Monte Morris
In place of McClung, the Pacers will be welcoming Monte Morris, a seasoned guard with eight years of NBA experience. The 30-year-old has previously played for the Phoenix Suns, where he participated in 45 games last season, averaging 5.2 points, 1.6 assists, and 1.5 rebounds while shooting 42.6% from the field.
Injury Challenges
The Pacers are currently facing a difficult season plagued by injuries. On Wednesday, they suffered a 112-103 loss to the Brooklyn Nets, dropping their record to 1-7. The team has had eight players sidelined, including key contributors:
- Tyrese Haliburton: Out for the season due to a torn Achilles.
- Obi Toppin: Out until at least February with a stress fracture in his foot.
- T.J. McConnell: Yet to play this season, nursing a hamstring strain.
- Bennedict Mathurin: Listed as week-to-week with a big toe injury.
- Andrew Nembhard: Out since the season opener with a shoulder injury.
- Kam Jones: Suffering from a back issue.
- Johnny Furphy: Recovering from an ankle injury.
- Quenton Jackson: Dealing with a hamstring issue.
By adding Morris, the Pacers aim to stabilize their backcourt and cope with the ongoing injury crisis. The front office hopes this move will provide the necessary support during this challenging phase of the season.
