Women’s Basketball Aims to Conclude Sun Belt Era Triumphantly

Texas State women’s basketball has launched its 11th and final season in the Sun Belt conference. The team hosted the Ohio Bobcats at Strahan Arena for the season opener under the direction of head coach Zenarae Antoine.
Coach Zenarae Antoine’s Legacy
Entering her 15th season, Antoine is the winningest coach in Texas State history, boasting a record of 212 wins and 209 losses. Last year’s campaign ended poorly, featuring a 13-17 overall record and a 7-11 mark in conference play. This resulted in a ninth-place finish in the Sun Belt standings. The Bobcats season concluded prematurely after a 68-62 loss to Marshall in their first tournament game.
Roster Changes for the Bobcats
This season’s team will look markedly different as 11 players departed, including four who transferred. Consequently, only four athletes return:
- Takeira Ramey (Sophomore)
- Taleiyah Gibbs (Junior)
- Saniya Burks (Sophomore, 6.3 points per game)
- Mia Galbraith (Sophomore, limited play due to injury)
To bolster the roster, Antoine welcomed seven new transfers. Key players include:
- Deja Jones (Graduate transfer from Indiana State, 10 points, 5 rebounds per game)
- KP Parr (Sophomore guard from Wichita State)
- Myri Walker (Transfer from South Alabama)
- Kyaija Stewart (Junior forward from Daytona State College)
Junior College Contributions
Antoine also recruited from junior colleges, adding:
- Kyla McBride (Junior forward, national champion at Northwest Florida State)
- Kyra Anderson (All-Region and Freshman of the Year at Tyler Junior College)
- Myla Harbor (From Hinds Community College in Mississippi)
New Talent to Watch
Freshman Angela Carroll joins the squad after averaging 15.6 points and 7.1 rebounds at La Vega High School. She was recognized as First Team All-District in 2023, 2024, and 2025, and made the All-Region Team in 2024 and 2025. Another promising addition is Kaliyah Murphy, a true freshman from Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg, Maryland.
Season Outlook
The Bobcats were projected to finish 12th in the Sun Belt Women’s Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll. With a significant roster overhaul, the team’s cohesion will be crucial. Following the matchup against Ohio, the Bobcats face challenging games against Texas Tech in Lubbock and rival UTSA in San Antonio.
As they aim to conclude their Sun Belt era triumphantly, the revamped Bobcats have their sights set on a successful final season, especially with hopes of joining the Pac-12 next year.
