Yaxel Lendeborg’s journey from a troubled high school student to a promising basketball player is truly remarkable. Before his final year, Lendeborg and his mother, Yissel Raposo, had an emotional conversation that changed his life. Raposo emphasized how his grandfather valued hard work and education, which prompted Lendeborg to commit to bettering himself.
A New Path to Success
After graduating high school in 2020, Lendeborg enrolled at Camden Community College. This shift ignited his academic performance, allowing him to return to basketball in the latter part of the season. His potential became evident as he played 12 games and stood out on the court.
College Career Begins
Lendeborg transitioned to Arizona Western College (AWC), where he thrived during his three years. Under Coach Kyle Isaacs, he became a two-time junior college All-American, averaging impressive stats, including 28 points and 31 rebounds in one game. He also shot 72% from the field during his final season.
Success at UAB
After AWC, Lendeborg joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). There he excelled and became known for his versatility and defensive abilities. He ranked highly in multiple statistical categories and helped lead UAB to the NCAA Tournament.
Exciting Future at Michigan
In 2023, Lendeborg transferred to Michigan, where he is now a highly anticipated player. Standing at 6 feet 9 inches and with a 7-foot-4 wingspan, he is projected as a top NBA draft pick. His first appearances with the Wolverines have already shown his potential, scoring 31 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in an exhibition game.
