Commanders’ LB Frankie Luvu Suspended 1 Game for Player-Safety Violations

The Washington Commanders will be without linebacker Frankie Luvu for one game due to player-safety violations. The NFL announced his suspension after multiple infractions involving dangerous tackle techniques.

Details of the Suspension

On Monday evening, the NFL confirmed Luvu’s suspension without pay for the team’s Week 10 matchup against the Detroit Lions. The decision follows Luvu’s third hip-drop tackle violation this season, which occurred during the Commanders’ recent game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Violation and Consequences

Luvu’s infraction was specifically a hip-drop tackle, which the league classified as a breach of Rule 12, Section 2, Article 18 (a)(b). This rule prohibits players from using certain techniques to bring down a runner, such as dropping their hips to trap a runner’s legs below the knee.

If Luvu does not win his appeal, he will forfeit his game check of approximately $508,333.

Previous Incidents

  • Week 4: Luvu was fined for a hip-drop tackle.
  • Week 8: He received another fine for a similar offense.

Player Profile

At 29 years old, Frankie Luvu is in his eighth NFL season and his second with the Commanders. In this season, he has made a significant impact with:

  • 50 tackles

  • Four tackles for loss

Impact on the Team

The news of Luvu’s suspension adds to a challenging week for the Commanders. Recently, cornerback Marshon Lattimore suffered a torn ACL, while wide receiver Luke McCaffrey broke his collarbone. Additionally, quarterback Jayden Daniels dislocated his elbow during the game against the Seahawks.
