Why is Former Packers Cornerback Jaire Alexander Absent in Baltimore?

Former Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander has caused concern among fans with his absence from the Baltimore Ravens roster. Initially signed to a one-year deal, the 28-year-old aimed to rejuvenate his career and contribute to a team with aspirations of winning the Super Bowl. However, as the season progresses, Alexander has found himself sidelined despite apparently being healthy.
Jaire Alexander’s Status in Baltimore
Through the first half of the 2025 NFL season, Alexander has participated in only two games. The highlights of his season thus far include:
- Week 1: Played against the Buffalo Bills.
- Week 5: Appeared in the game against the Houston Texans on October 5.
Despite not being listed as injured, he was inactive for the games against the Los Angeles Rams and the Chicago Bears, raising questions about his status. Notably, the Ravens defeated the Bears 30-16 on October 26, marking only their second win of the season.
Injury and Training Camp Challenges
Alexander’s troubles began during training camp when he missed several weeks due to a knee issue. This ongoing problem has plagued his career, leading to a season-ending shoulder injury in 2021 and missing a significant number of games over the past two seasons in Green Bay. In total, he missed 20 out of 34 games due to various injuries, including a torn PCL in his right knee.
Before the Ravens’ impressive defensive performance against the Bears, Coach John Harbaugh commented on Alexander’s readiness, indicating positive progress in practice. Yet, his failure to make the field raises concerns about his long-term future with the Ravens.
Looking Forward
The Ravens will face the Packers in Week 17 on December 28. If Alexander remains unable to contribute, it could signal a challenging end to a career that once looked promising. His track record as a former first-round pick and two-time All-Pro underscores the potential he still possesses, making his current situation all the more disappointing for fans and teammates alike.
