Jackson Seeks Transfer as Third Bengal Player Requests Move

Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle McKinnley Jackson has requested a transfer, becoming the third defensive player to seek a move from the team in recent weeks. This decision reflects growing tensions within the Bengals’ roster.
Jackson’s Trade Request
McKinnley Jackson, a third-round pick from the 2024 NFL Draft, has found himself sidelined for a significant portion of this season. He has not played in six of the Bengals’ first eight games and only participated in six defensive snaps during a Week 5 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Jackson’s Performance History
Last season, Jackson began on injured reserve due to a knee injury sustained in training camp. Despite this setback, he managed to play in 13 games, including one start. He concluded his rookie year with:
- 15 tackles
- 1 sack
- 1 forced fumble
Recent Trends in Bengals’ Roster Moves
Jackson’s trade request aligns with a recent increase in player movements within the Bengals organization. Linebacker Logan Wilson also requested a trade on October 23. Furthermore, defensive tackle Mike Pennel reached a noninjury settlement this week, resulting in his release. He has since been signed by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Coaching Changes and Impact
This season has been marked by significant changes in the Bengals’ defensive coaching staff. Al Golden replaced Lou Anarumo as the defensive coordinator. Golden, who previously served as the team’s linebackers coach, acknowledged Jackson’s potential, stating: “He’s got power, he’s got knee bend, he’s got strength.”
The NFL trade deadline is set for Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET. As the Bengals navigate these challenges, it remains to be seen how Jackson’s future and the team’s defensive lineup will unfold.
