Details of the Incident
The incident unfolded on a Monday afternoon when deputies responded to a report at a condominium complex on Hollyhock Drive. Upon arrival, Nuñez was shot and later pronounced dead at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Saldivar’s reckless escape ended with a collision on the freeway after he pulled out what appeared to be a weapon.
According to Sheriff Shannon Dicus, an off-duty officer intervened during the chase, leading to Saldivar’s arrest. He was hospitalized but is now facing murder charges. A procession honoring Nuñez’s life took place after his passing, with hundreds of law enforcement officers participating.
