Whitecaps FC Reveal 2025 Player Awards Winners

Vancouver Whitecaps FC recently announced the winners of their 2025 Player Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions from both players and members of the community.

Player of the Year: Sebastian Berhalter

Midfielder Sebastian Berhalter earned the Player of the Year award for the first time in his career, reflecting his significant growth throughout the season. At 24, he has emerged as a vital player for the Whitecaps, ranking second in assists for the club during its MLS era.

This season, Berhalter has registered a career-high 23 goal contributions, which include eight goals and a team-leading 15 assists across 42 appearances. Notably, he started 36 matches, underscoring his integral role in Coach Jesper Sørensen’s strategy.

Berhalter’s highlights include impressive performances during the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals and a streak of 11 goal contributions in eight matches from August to October, capped by his first career brace against San Jose Earthquakes. His consistent excellence earned him multiple accolades, including a spot in the Concacaf Champions Cup Best XI and a selection as an MLS All-Star. Berhalter was voted Player of the Year by fans in an online poll.

Humanitarian of the Year: Brian White

Forward Brian White received the Humanitarian of the Year award for his community contributions. Throughout the season, he engaged with local organizations such as Special Olympics BC and Children’s Hearing and Speech Centre of BC, offering them memorable experiences at games.

White’s philanthropic efforts include a donation aimed at renovating the Whitecaps’ playroom at the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, helping create a nurturing environment for children and families.

Jock MacDonald Unsung Hero: Tate Johnson

Defender Tate Johnson was honored as the Unsung Hero for his impactful rookie season. Starting 29 out of 39 matches across competitions, Johnson has played a critical role in the team’s defense, making pivotal interventions during key moments.

Offensively, he contributed two assists and scored his first professional goal against CF Montréal. The Unsung Hero Award pays tribute to Jock MacDonald, a significant figure in the club’s history.

Domenic Mobilio Golden Boot: Brian White

Brian White also clinched the Domenic Mobilio Golden Boot as the leading goalscorer of the 2025 MLS regular season. With a career-high 16 goals, White boasts an impressive scoring record, including six additional goals in Concacaf Champions Cup matches.

He stands fourth on the all-time goalscorers list for the club, closing in on surpassing notable predecessors. Remarkably, White also made history by scoring four goals in a single match against Austin FC.

Most Promising Player: Édier Ocampo

Édier Ocampo was recognized as the Most Promising Player. The Colombian youth international had a standout season, contributing defensively and offensively. He started 37 of 42 matches and ranked among the top fullbacks in terms of defensive blocks.

Ocampo scored three goals, including a highlight finish during the Concacaf Champions Cup run, and earned two selections to the MLS Team of the Matchday.

BMO RESP Academy Player: Charlie Rogers

Charlie Rogers, a defender from Delta, BC, was awarded the BMO RESP Academy Player accolade. His strong performance in the Whitecaps FC MLS Academy showcased his leadership and dedication, earning him a $1,000 RESP for his achievements.

WFC2 Player of the Year: Rayan Elloumi

Rayan Elloumi was named the WFC2 Player of the Year after an impressive season. Scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists in just 18 appearances, Elloumi was pivotal in leading WFC2 to the playoffs.

He made his first-team debut in June and has since signed a professional contract, becoming a vital component of the roster. Elloumi also earned international recognition, scoring on his debut for Tunisia’s U-23 team.
