Panthers’ Dalton to Start as QB Against Bills

Andy Dalton has been named the starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers in their upcoming game against the Buffalo Bills. This decision comes despite the potential availability of Bryce Young, who is recovering from an ankle sprain.

Injury Update on Bryce Young

Bryce Young, the Panthers’ first-round draft pick in 2023, is listed as doubtful for the game. An MRI has confirmed a high ankle sprain, and reports suggest he will not participate in the matchup against the Bills on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Young’s injury occurred during the Panthers’ recent victory over the New York Jets, which improved their season record to 4-3. Coach Dave Canales indicated that Young was day-to-day, but it may be unwise to put him on the field without any team snaps this week.

Dalton’s Game Experience

This will be Dalton’s first start for the Panthers this season and his sixth overall in the last three seasons. Previously, he has a record of 1-5 in his starts for Carolina. Dalton expressed enthusiasm about stepping into the role, noting, “Every opportunity I get to be out there I’m going to enjoy every moment.”

He added, “Obviously, you hate that Bryce got hurt, but I get to be in there and impact the game.”

Dalton’s History with the Bills

Dalton has a memorable history with the Buffalo Bills. In 2017, he was instrumental in the Bengals’ win over the Ravens, which allowed Buffalo to reach the playoffs for the first time in 17 years. In recognition of his efforts, Bills fans donated over $415,000 to the Andy & Jordan Dalton Foundation, honoring the playoff drought.

The support led to Dalton receiving a standing ovation during a subsequent preseason game in Buffalo, a gesture he recalls fondly.
