Ukrainian Drone Strikes Moscow Suburb, Injuring 5 amid Overnight Barrage

Ukrainian drone strikes targeted multiple areas in Russia overnight, resulting in injuries to at least five individuals, including a child. The incidents occurred outside Moscow, particularly in Krasnogorsk, where a drone hit a building.

Details of the Attack

The Ukrainian strike struck a high-rise apartment block, damaging the 14th floor significantly. Russian regional authorities reported that four adults suffered from head injuries, fractures, and shrapnel wounds. A young boy sustained lighter injuries during the incident.

Governor’s Statement

Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov provided updates on the situation via his Telegram channel. Images showed the devastation, with blown-out walls and severe structural damage to the apartment.

Defense Ministry Response

Russia’s Defense Ministry stated that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 111 Ukrainian drones over 13 regions throughout the night. This marks the second consecutive night of intense drone activity, with over 100 drones being launched toward Russian targets.

Widespread Impacts

  • Power outages and fires were reported in Novoshakhtinsk, a mining town in the Rostov region.
  • There were 34 drones downed in Rostov, according to Defense Ministry sources.
  • In Belgorod, 21 residents were reported injured in the past day, with two individuals in serious condition.

Both Belgorod and Rostov are situated near the Ukrainian border. Emergency services are currently active in Bryansk, Kaluga, Tula, and Tver regions, with no casualties reported from these areas.

Airport Operations Affected

The drone strikes caused temporary flight suspensions at airports in Volgograd, Gelendzhik, and Krasnodar. By Friday morning, Kaluga airport continued to experience operational restrictions. Moscow’s Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports also briefly halted flights.

Further Developments

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that three additional drones were shot down as they approached the capital. The Defense Ministry later reported the interception of 25 more Ukrainian drones, predominantly over Bryansk and Tula regions.

This incident underscores the ongoing tensions and hostilities in the region, highlighting the effectiveness of drone warfare and its far-reaching consequences.
