The Buffs, who are set to play against Utah, have witnessed a blend of experience and youthful vigor on their roster. Among the 103 players, there are 37 seniors, including 33 in their final eligibility year. However, fresh faces are making notable strides on the field.

The Role of Sophomores and Freshmen

CU’s roster also features impactful sophomores. Jordan Seaton, a highly ranked recruit, has established himself as a reliable pass blocker. Micah Welch leads the team in rushing yards with 277 and has scored two touchdowns. Additionally, Joseph Williams, a transfer from Tulsa, has 24 catches and three touchdowns.

With a remarkable performance on defense, safety Tawfiq Byard leads the team with 51 tackles. He’s complemented by key cornerbacks and receivers who contribute when healthy.

Coaching and Recruitment Focus

Under head coach Deion Sanders, the Buffaloes have not only focused on building through the transfer portal but have also excelled in high school recruiting. The current freshman class showcases exceptional talents, including five-star quarterback JuJu Lewis and several promising offensive linemen.

The commitment from the younger players reflects a shared goal of making an impact and setting a foundational standard for future recruits. As Merritt aptly puts it, “We are here to build and set a prime example for other freshmen coming in.”

The CU Buffs continue to develop their young talent, illustrating the significant role youth plays in their quest for success this season.
