Top SC Next 100 Recruit Vukosa Chooses Leading UConn

Olivia Vukosa, a top recruit in the girls’ SC Next 100 for 2026, has committed to the University of Connecticut (UConn), marking a significant milestone for the team. She is the first commitment for UConn’s 2026 recruiting class, a notable achievement for the reigning national champions.

Vukosa Chooses UConn Over Top Contenders

The 6-foot-4 post player from Whitestone, New York, opted for UConn after considering offers from elite programs including LSU, Ohio State, Texas, and South Carolina. Vukosa is currently a senior at Christ the King High School in Queens, a school known for producing top basketball talent.

Reasons Behind the Decision

Vukosa emphasized several key factors in her decision:

  • Strong connection to UConn’s history with Christ the King alumni like Sue Bird and Tina Charles.
  • The opportunity for her family to easily attend games due to UConn’s proximity.
  • A welcoming atmosphere during her visit, where she felt an immediate sense of belonging.

She expressed her excitement about following in the footsteps of previous players, stating, “I want to follow that legacy.”

International Experience and Playing Style

Vukosa brings valuable international experience to UConn, having represented Croatia in various FIBA competitions. Her noteworthy performances include:

  • 2023 U16 Women’s European Championship
  • 2024 Women’s World Cup
  • 2025 U20 EuroBasket B Division, averaging 15.6 points and 9.1 rebounds per game.

Her playing style has drawn comparisons to Stefanie Dolson, a former UConn standout and WNBA veteran. Vukosa excels in passing, ball handling, and outside shooting, while also demonstrating strength in post plays and rebounding.

Future Prospects and UConn’s Recruiting Efforts

Currently ranked third among 2026 recruits, Vukosa aims to challenge for the top spot as the high school season progresses. Her commitment secures UConn’s position among the elite programs, with the top four recruits now committed elsewhere.

UConn will continue to target other highly regarded prospects, including Jerzy Robinson (ranked No. 5) and Addison Bjorn (ranked No. 10).

The 2023-2024 season is set to begin for UConn as they defend their title against Louisville on November 4, 2025. With Vukosa’s commitment, the Huskies are bolstering their future while maintaining their status as a powerhouse in women’s college basketball.
