Tommy Fleetwood Triumphs in India to Fulfill Son’s Dream – DP World Tour

Tommy Fleetwood achieved a significant victory at the DP World Tour event in India, fulfilling a dream for his son. Starting the final round in second place, Fleetwood was two shots behind Japan’s Keita Nakajima. However, a surprising performance by New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier briefly placed him in the lead after reaching seven under par for the round.

Despite Hillier’s strong start, he faced a setback with a double bogey on the 14th hole, which derailed his chances. Nakajima, who had impressed with a third-round score of 65, struggled to replicate that form and ultimately finished in second place for the third time on the DP World Tour.

Fleetwood’s Remarkable Round

Fleetwood’s round consisted of a spectacular run of four consecutive birdies from the seventh to the tenth holes. He maintained his momentum with additional birdies on the 14th and 17th holes. With this performance, he secured a comfortable two-shot lead going into the final hole.

Impact of Victory

  • This triumph qualified Fleetwood for the season-ending tournaments.
  • He has displayed consistent form, with eight top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour this season.
  • Fleetwood contributed significantly to Europe’s Ryder Cup win against the United States in New York earlier this season.

After the win, Fleetwood reflected on his recent success, stating, “I have been in contention in my last two tournaments and have won them, so maybe things are starting to even out.”

Other Notable Performances

Alex Fitzpatrick also impressed, finishing with a birdie on the last hole, which capped off three consecutive rounds of 67. He ended the tournament tied for third place at 18 under, alongside Ireland’s Shane Lowry.

Viktor Hovland showcased his skills as well, finishing fourth at 17 under after chipping in for an eagle on the last hole. In contrast, Rory McIlroy concluded the tournament tied for 25th at 11 under.
