Elliot Page and Stars Tackle ‘Good Sex’ in New Off-Broadway Play

“Good Sex” is an innovative off-Broadway play that poses the provocative question: How do you have sex on stage? This unique production, featuring intimacy coordinators, runs from November 5 to November 8 at Brooklyn’s Powerhouse Arts.

Dynamic Cast and Performances

The play showcases pairs of unfamiliar actors, each performing together for the first time without prior rehearsal. Each night brings a new couple, creating an unpredictable theatrical experience.

  • November 5: Pairing to be announced
  • November 6: Elliot Page (“Juno,” “The Umbrella Academy”) and John Cameron Mitchell (“Hedwig and the Angry Inch”)
  • November 7: Morgan Spector (“The Gilded Age”) and Constance Wu (“Crazy Rich Asians”)
  • November 8: Brandon Flynn (“13 Reasons Why”) and Chris Perfetti (“Abbott Elementary”)

The Role of Intimacy Coordinators

To facilitate these intimate scenes, actors will be supported by an intimacy coordinator. This role has become increasingly significant in Hollywood, focusing on the actors’ safety and comfort during performances. The coordinator ensures that intimacy is expressed safely and consensually.

A Unique Narrative

“Good Sex” explores themes of desire, betrayal, and loneliness. Each night, the combination of new performers creates a fresh perspective on these topics. While performing as strangers, the actors are guided by the intimacy director, adding a layer of professionalism and care to the storytelling.

Background and Inspiration

This play originated from the Irish theater company Dead Centre, in collaboration with novelist Emilie Pine. Emerging from the COVID pandemic, “Good Sex” is described as a “love story for a loveless age.”

It premiered in 2022 during the Dublin Theatre Festival, receiving funding from the Arts Council of Ireland. The production is part of Powerhouse: International, an arts festival aimed at bridging local and international artistic communities.

Producer David Binder believes this collaboration will result in an extraordinary theatrical experience in Brooklyn. With its innovative format and seasoned performers, “Good Sex” promises to deliver a thrilling and engaging night of theater.
