Diddy is taking proactive steps to contest his recent criminal conviction and sentence. Official documents indicate that he filed an appeal in a federal court in New York. This movement comes just weeks after a judge sentenced him.
Diddy Appeals Criminal Conviction and Sentence
On October 3, Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Diddy to over four years in federal prison. He was convicted on two charges related to the Mann Act, which involves transportation across state lines for the purpose of prostitution. However, he was acquitted of the more serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.
Legal Representation
In the court filings obtained from TMZ, Alexandra A.E. Shapiro represents Diddy in this appeal. Legal experts anticipate that Diddy’s team will submit a substantive brief within the next four to six weeks.
Current Status and Sentencing Details
Currently, Diddy remains at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) while he awaits his designated prison assignment. Judge Subramanian noted that it would be preferable for Diddy to serve his sentence in proximity to the New York City area.
Diddy’s attorneys have also requested that the Bureau of Prisons consider sending him to the low-security facility, FCI Fort Dix, located in New Jersey. This would allow him to remain closer to his home and family during his incarceration.
