Eric Dane Stars as ALS Patient in ‘Brilliant Minds’ Season 2

Eric Dane will guest star in Season 2 of the NBC medical drama “Brilliant Minds.” Known for his roles in “Euphoria” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” Dane portrays Matthew, a firefighter who faces the challenge of sharing his ALS diagnosis with his family. This role takes on added significance as Dane announced his own ALS diagnosis earlier this year.

Understanding ALS

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a neurodegenerative condition. It affects the nerve cells responsible for muscle movement, leading to gradual paralysis. Patients typically experience a loss of ability to speak, walk, and breathe independently. Dane has recently begun using a wheelchair and was unable to attend this year’s “Grey’s Anatomy” reunion at the Emmys due to a fall that resulted in hospitalization.
