Govardhan Asrani, a beloved figure in Bollywood, passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness. His notable career spanned more than five decades, during which he appeared in over 350 films, leaving an indelible mark on Indian cinema.

Born in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Asrani became a household name in the early 1970s with his role in “Mere Apne.” He gained immense popularity, particularly for his portrayal of the quirky jailer in the 1975 classic “Sholay.” His memorable dialogue, “Hum Angrezon ke zamaane ke jailer hain,” resonated deeply with audiences, cementing his status in Bollywood history.
