REM Line Launches Service to Deux-Montagnes on November 17

Starting November 17, the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) will begin service between downtown Montreal and Deux-Montagnes. This new line is a significant addition to the REM network, welcoming 14 new stations.

Details of the New REM Line

Currently, the REM has five operational stations from Montreal to Brossard on the South Shore. With the introduction of this branch, there will be increased connectivity, including three direct links to the Montreal metro network. Additionally, several bus routes will be adjusted to connect with the new REM line.

Service Schedule

  • Start Date: November 17
  • Initial Operating Hours: Starts around 5:30 a.m.
  • Evening Service: Trains will operate only to Côte-de-Liesse station

The decision to limit evening service is due to ongoing tests related to the Anse-à-l’Orme branch, which is scheduled for launch in the spring of the following year. The start of the Deux-Montagnes branch has faced delays, primarily due to the challenges encountered during the work on the Mount Royal tunnel.

Future Goals for the REM Network

Once completed, the REM network aims to comprise 26 stations across a total length of 67 kilometers. A vital component of this expansion is the link to Montreal-Trudeau Airport, projected for completion in 2027.

Financial Overview

The overall cost of the REM project has risen significantly, now estimated at $9.4 billion. This figure is $2.4 billion higher than the initial forecasts made in 2018.

The launch of the REM service to Deux-Montagnes is a critical step in enhancing public transit in the greater Montreal area, offering improved access and convenience for commuters.
