Packers’ Kicker McManus to Begin Practice Kicks Two Days Before Game

The Green Bay Packers are closely monitoring kicker Brandon McManus as he recovers from a quad injury. After missing the last game, McManus will not resume practice until Friday. Coach Matt LaFleur indicated that his status is currently day-to-day, depending on how he feels leading up to the next game.

Kicker Practices Ahead of Game

Brandon McManus typically practices on Wednesdays and Fridays. Although he skipped practice on his scheduled day due to discomfort from a right thigh injury, he may engage in some kicking sessions at the Don Hutson Center on alternate days. However, daily practice could place undue stress on a kicker’s leg.

The Packers brought in Lucas Havrisik to fill in for McManus after he experienced tightness in his thigh during practice on October 9. Havrisik successfully executed both field goal attempts and three extra points during the team’s 27-18 victory over Cincinnati on October 12.

Coach LaFleur’s Confidence in Havrisik

  • LaFleur praised Havrisik for stepping up in a challenging situation.
  • He expressed comfort in having two kickers on the roster, as the team is at 51 players.

Christian Watson’s Recovery Status

In addition to McManus, the team is also focusing on receiver Christian Watson’s return. Watson is currently in a three-week practice window as he recovers from a torn ACL. He started the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list, missing training camp.

  • The Packers opened Watson’s practice window on October 6.
  • As of October 16, he has participated in all five practices and donned full pads for the second time.

When questioned about Watson’s potential return for the upcoming game, LaFleur stated, “We’ll see.” He emphasized that Watson looks great but that the focus is on ensuring he is ready to contribute effectively.

Defensive Performance under Micah Parsons

Defensive edge rusher Micah Parsons’ influence extends beyond his sack totals. LaFleur noted that opposing quarterbacks are getting rid of the ball more quickly, resulting in the Packers limiting pass plays to no longer than 34 yards.

LaFleur mentioned the Packers have recorded just 12 sacks this season, attributing some of this success to the attention Parsons commands from opposing offenses. He stated the need for other players to capitalize on one-on-one opportunities while adjusting defensive schemes accordingly.
