Dre Greenlaw Trade Ignites Major Broncos Personnel Shake-up

The Denver Broncos have made significant roster changes by activating linebacker Dre Greenlaw from injured reserve. This announcement was made on Saturday evening, marking a notable shift in the team’s lineup. Along with Greenlaw’s activation, the Broncos also announced other personnel moves that have implications for their upcoming games.

Dre Greenlaw’s Activation and Roster Adjustments

With the addition of Dre Greenlaw back to the active roster, the Broncos have reshuffled their roster substantially. Quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who was released to accommodate Greenlaw, has been re-signed to the practice squad. Meanwhile, defensive back A.J. Woods and wide receiver Thayer Thomas have been released. Thomas was dismissed following an injury settlement.

  • Activated linebacker: Dre Greenlaw
  • Re-signed: QB Sam Ehlinger to the practice squad
  • Released: DB A.J. Woods
  • Released: WR Thayer Thomas with settlement

Following these moves, the Broncos now have 17 players on their practice squad. This exceeds the usual limit of 16 due to an International Player exemption, attributed to tight end Patrick Murtagh, who was born in Australia.

Quarterback Situation

Despite being re-signed, Ehlinger cannot dress as the third emergency quarterback, as players on the practice squad are not eligible for this role. However, the team can elevate him on game days if necessary. Starting quarterback Bo Nix has maintained his position without missing a game since being a first-round pick last year. Backup Jarrett Stidham is also healthy, reducing the chances of a quarterback crisis.

Looking Ahead: Week 7 Challenges

As the Broncos prepare for their Week 7 matchup against the New York Giants, a win would elevate their record to 5-2. This would represent the best start for the team since 2016, a season that ultimately boasted a 9-7 finish but missed the playoffs.

The current Broncos, led by head coach Sean Payton and quarterback Bo Nix, are looking to continue their momentum following a successful 2024 season that included a playoff appearance. However, their record ties them with the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC West. The Chargers currently hold the tiebreaker, having defeated Denver earlier in the season.

A potential showdown in the regular-season finale against the Chargers could be crucial for the divisional standings.

As the Broncos focus on their game against the Giants, they aim to solidify their position within the conference and extend their winning streak. Fans can stay updated with the latest news and analysis related to the team by subscribing to El-Balad’s newsletter.
