Barça Coach Denies Claims of Forced Yamal Selection

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has denied allegations that he was compelled to include Lamine Yamal in the lineup for the recent Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain. He referred to the claims as “complete nonsense” during a press conference.

Flick Addresses Selection Controversy

The controversy reportedly stems from Yamal arriving late for a pre-game activation session. Flick, in the past, has substituted Raphinha and Marcus Rashford for similar offenses. Despite this, a report suggested that the club’s board forced Flick to select Yamal when he initially intended to keep him on the bench.

“I apologize for my language, but it’s absolute nonsense,” Flick stated. “I would never allow that to happen. The club, including Deco, trusts us fully. They would never influence our decisions.”

Injury Concerns for Yamal

Yamal, 18, has dealt with injuries this season, making his latest start against PSG his first since August. A groin issue has sidelined him for seven matches across club and country. After the PSG game, he missed a 4-1 defeat to Sevilla but has resumed training. Flick indicates that Yamal is ready to play against Girona in LaLiga.

Barça’s Attacking Woes

Alongside Yamal, other attackers such as Robert Lewandowski, Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres, and Raphinha are currently unavailable. Flick is looking to find solutions to these challenges as they prepare for upcoming matches.

  • Upcoming Matches:
    • Oct. 14: vs. Girona (LaLiga)
    • Oct. 21: vs. Olympiacos (Champions League)
    • Oct. 26: vs. Real Madrid (Clásico)

Flick emphasized the need for attitude and mentality on the pitch, stating, “Our fans expect to see us fighting. Last season’s achievements are behind us. This season is a new challenge.”

Future Fixtures and Young Talent

As the team navigates through injuries, Flick hinted at potential contributions from young players from La Masia. He affirmed the importance of utilizing the break for other squad members to step up.

Additionally, Flick expressed discontent with LaLiga’s decision to schedule a match in Miami against Villarreal on December 20, stating the logistics of traveling to the US during the holiday season pose significant challenges.

In conclusion, Barcelona faces a difficult period but remains focused on rebuilding their momentum and preparing for their next games.
