Altintop Scores to Lead Ports Over Blues

Portadown secured a vital victory over Linfield in a gripping encounter that showcased both team’s determination and attacking prowess. The match featured several key moments, including an early injury to Linfield’s captain and a stunning goal from a defender.

Early Action and Key Chances

The match commenced with Linfield making an aggressive start, quickly forcing a corner within the first 30 seconds. Kirk Millar orchestrated the set-piece, passing to Ethan McGee, whose shot was blocked by Portadown’s goalie, Aaron McCarey.

Linfield had another opportunity shortly after when Kieran Offord’s attempt was also thwarted by McCarey. However, Portadown responded with an impressive play when Ben Wylie set up Rayhaan Tulloch. Tulloch managed a shot that was skillfully blocked by Linfield’s keeper, Chris Johns.

In a blow to Linfield, skipper Jamie Mulgrew sustained an injury early on. Subsequently, Portadown squandered a golden chance when Tulloch and Eamon Fyfe combined to assist Teelan, whose shot slipped past Johns but was heroically cleared off the line by Josh Archer, Mulgrew’s replacement.

Continuing the Pressure

Offord continued to be a significant threat for Linfield, connecting with Millar’s clever through ball in the penalty area. Despite beating McCarey with his shot, it narrowly missed the target.

In the closing moments of the first half, Portadown nearly broke the deadlock when Altintop’s header from a corner by Fyfe went just over the crossbar.

Defensive Breakthrough

Following the interval, opportunities continued to arise for both sides. Lewis MacKinnon found himself unmarked to meet a free-kick from McCullough but unfortunately volleyed it wide.

However, on the 55th minute, the game’s atmosphere shifted dramatically. McCullough delivered an inswinging corner that was powerfully headed home by Altintop, giving Portadown a 1-0 lead.

Final Blow and Outcome

Portadown sealed their victory with a devastating counterattack in the 72nd minute. Tulloch sprinted downfield and delivered a well-timed through ball to Teelan, who slotted it home effortlessly.

This win propels Portadown to a total of 15 points in the league standings, though they remain at the lower end due to goal difference.
