Ty Lue Implements Cavaliers Strategy to Enhance Brook Lopez’s Comfort

Brook Lopez has officially joined the Los Angeles Clippers for the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season. This move follows a successful seven-year tenure with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he evolved into a three-point specialist despite playing as a center.

Ty Lue’s Strategy for Brook Lopez

With Lopez’s arrival, head coach Tyronn Lue plans to implement strategies reminiscent of his time coaching the Cleveland Cavaliers. During his Cavaliers era, Lue successfully utilized stretch-fives, notably Channing Frye and Kevin Love. He aims to replicate that success with Lopez.

Lue stated, “I’m back to my Channing Frye days and Kevin Love days back in Cleveland. Just a lot of stuff we can run that I’m comfortable with, and he’s getting comfortable with now.” While Lue has not yet unveiled his entire playbook for Lopez during preseason, he is poised to do so in the regular season.

Brook Lopez’s Role on the Clippers

The addition of Lopez offers the Clippers a significant advantage. Traditionally, Ivica Zubac has played the center position but has limited his three-point attempts. Lopez, however, provides the team with a legitimate stretch-five option, enhancing their offensive flexibility.

  • Brook Lopez: A proven three-point shooter.
  • Ivica Zubac: The traditional center with limited three-point production.
  • Tyronn Lue: Plans to integrate Lopez into advanced offensive schemes.

Excitement Surrounding Lopez’s Arrival

The excitement surrounding Lopez’s signing extends beyond Lue. Veteran player Chris Paul expressed enthusiasm for teaming up with the sharpshooter, highlighting the transformation of the Clippers’ roster.

Lue emphasized the uniqueness of having a true shooting-five, stating, “We got a shooting 5, man! We haven’t seen that in a long time.” This change marks a crucial shift for the Clippers as they adapt their gameplay for the upcoming season.

As the preseason progresses, the Clippers face the challenge of integrating Lopez into their lineup. Despite starting with a loss, Lue is optimistic about refining their tactics to improve performance.
