Detroit Lions Add Veteran Cornerback to Practice Squad

The Detroit Lions are making significant adjustments to their roster ahead of their Week 7 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The most notable change is the addition of veteran cornerback Kyle Fuller to their practice squad.

Detroit Lions Add Veteran Cornerback Kyle Fuller to Practice Squad

Kyle Fuller, a nine-year NFL veteran, was signed to the Lions’ practice squad. A third-round draft pick in 2016, Fuller brings a wealth of experience, having started 104 games across his career. His professional journey includes stints with the Washington Football Team, Kansas City Chiefs, and most recently, the Miami Dolphins.

Career Highlights and Performance

  • In 2024, Fuller played 11 games for Miami.
  • Registered 50 tackles and seven pass breakups.
  • Achieved a respectable 66.2 PFF grade.
  • Maintained PFF grades of 70 or higher in most seasons since 2017.

Fuller was released by the Dolphins in February, a decision that helped save nearly $3 million in cap space. His 5-foot-11, 198-pound frame has primarily placed him in the role of outside cornerback. With the Lions facing several injuries in their secondary, Fuller’s experience is a welcome addition.

Current Roster Changes

In addition to Fuller, the Lions have made other roster moves to strengthen their lineup. They waived players Eguakun and Smith to make room for safety Erick Hallett, defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson, and cornerback Nick Whiteside. Following the waiver process, Eguakun and Smith have rejoined the team.

Furthermore, the Lions waived cornerback Strickland, a surprising move considering the team is already dealing with injuries in their secondary. Safety Brian Branch is suspended for one game, and Kerby Joseph is currently battling a knee injury. Strickland may return to the practice squad if he clears waivers.

These roster adjustments aim to solidify the team’s defense as the Lions prepare to face the Buccaneers this upcoming week.
