Israel Identifies Two Hostages Killed by Hamas in Return Exchange

Israel recently announced the identification of two hostages killed during their captivity by Hamas. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) informed the families of Guy Iluz and Bipin Joshi about their loved ones’ tragic deaths. Both were among the four deceased hostages returned to Israel via the Red Cross after 738 days in captivity.

Details of the Hostage Situation

Guy Iluz was reported to have been kidnapped alive while escaping from the Nova music festival. He sustained injuries from Hamas but ultimately died due to a lack of medical care. At the time of his death, he was 26 years old.

Bipin Joshi, aged 23, was taken from Kibbutz Alumim during the early stages of the conflict while seeking refuge in a bomb shelter. According to the IDF, he was murdered in captivity during the first months of the war.

Ongoing Investigations

The IDF stated that the final assessments regarding the circumstances of their deaths would be concluded once the National Center of Forensic Medicine completes its investigations. The identities of the other two deceased hostages have yet to be disclosed pending family clearance.

Families and Community Reactions

  • The Hostages and Missing Families Forum expressed their condolences, stating that the return of Guy and Bipin brings a somber comfort to their families who have faced uncertainty for over two years.
  • Despite their grief, families remain hopeful for the return of all hostages and continue to advocate for their return.

The Bigger Picture

On October 13, 2025, the final 20 living hostages were freed following a ceasefire agreement. However, there are still 24 deceased hostages’ remains in Gaza, some of which may include U.S. citizens. Hamas reported challenges in locating all the deceased bodies, complicating the process of bringing them home for proper burials.

The IDF emphasized its commitment to ensuring that all hostages are returned, underscoring the importance of continuing efforts to fulfill the terms of their agreements with Hamas.
