Colts Place QB Anthony Richardson on IR, Claim S Reuben Lowery from Ravens

The Indianapolis Colts have made significant roster changes as they place quarterback Anthony Richardson on injured reserve and claim safety Reuben Lowery from the Baltimore Ravens.
Colts Place Anthony Richardson on Injured Reserve
On Monday, the Colts announced that quarterback Anthony Richardson will be on injured reserve due to a fractured orbital bone. This injury occurred during pregame band work before the Colts’ Week 6 victory against the Arizona Cardinals. Head coach Shane Steichen confirmed that Richardson will “miss some time,” but did not provide a specific timeline for his return.
Implications of Injured Reserve
Richardson is required to miss a minimum of four games while on injured reserve. Currently, the Colts have only two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster:
- Daniel Jones
- Riley Leonard, a sixth-round pick from 2025
Steichen noted that general manager Chris Ballard and the football operations team are actively exploring options for a third quarterback. They plan to address this situation within the next 24 hours.
Reuben Lowery Joins the Colts
The Colts also bolstered their defense by claiming Reuben Lowery, a safety who was with the Ravens. Lowery, standing at 5 feet 9 inches and weighing 204 pounds, played in three games (one start) for Baltimore in 2025, accumulating five tackles. Previously, he joined the Ravens as an undrafted free agent earlier this spring after completing his college career at Chattanooga.
Lowery’s Potential Impact
The addition of Lowery may enhance the Colts’ defensive capabilities as they navigate through Richardson’s absence. His experience, although limited, may provide valuable depth in the secondary.
