Titans Dismiss Coach Brian Callahan Following 1-5 Start in 2025

The Tennessee Titans have parted ways with head coach Brian Callahan after a disappointing 1-5 start to the 2025 NFL season. Callahan, who was in his second year as head coach, ended his tenure with a record of 4-19.

Titans’ Decision to Dismiss Coach Brian Callahan

The decision to fire Callahan came after lengthy discussions among the team’s leadership, including president of football operations Chad Brinker. Brinker expressed gratitude for Callahan’s contributions but highlighted an urgent need for improvement.

“Our players, fans, and community deserve a football team that achieves a standard we are not currently meeting,” Brinker stated in a press release. He emphasized the franchise’s commitment to building a sustainable and winning program.

Coaching Record and Team Performance

  • Callahan’s overall record was 4 wins and 19 losses.
  • This season, the Titans managed only 83 points through six games, the lowest since 1985.
  • Callahan’s predecessor, Ken Whisenhunt, holds a worse record at 3-20.

The Titans’ struggles on offense were evident throughout the season. In a particularly disheartening Week 4, the team suffered a 26-0 loss to the Houston Texans, marking a game in which the Titans did not reach the red zone.

Fan Reactions and Future Directions

Frustration among fans peaked during a Week 3 home game against the Indianapolis Colts, leading to chants of “Fire Callahan.” Despite Callahan’s first victory of the season against the Arizona Cardinals, a subsequent loss to the Las Vegas Raiders sealed his fate.

The Titans have not yet appointed an interim head coach. Callahan was originally hired in 2023 following the dismissal of former coach Mike Vrabel, who now leads the New England Patriots. The Patriots currently sit second in the AFC East under Vrabel’s management.

As the Titans move forward, the organization faces the challenge of turning around a struggling franchise while demonstrating a commitment to improvement and success on the field.
