McCall noted that the park had been sandbagged to protect its septic systems. She reported unusual sights like hot tubs floating down the river, signifying the extent of the flooding. Luckily, the Vallecito Reservoir downstream had room to manage the surge of floodwaters due to a prolonged drought.
Prior to these floods, Colorado was grappling with dry conditions that had led to wildfires, including one that triggered a prison evacuation. The shift in weather brought both relief and concern, as heavy rain impacted road safety in regions like southern Utah. Firefighters in Washington City had to rescue individuals from vehicles stranded in floodwaters.
