Mortal Kombat Meets DC Universe in February 2026’s Special DC K.O. Issue

Excitement is building for the upcoming DC K.O. event, particularly due to its special crossover featuring Mortal Kombat characters. The event will debut a notable character, Sub-Zero, in February 2026. This significant collaboration was revealed during the Jim Lee & Friends panel at New York Comic Con 2025, where DC’s publisher, Jim Lee, and Ed Boone, the creator of Mortal Kombat, discussed the thrilling crossover.

Major Characters Joining the Crossover

In addition to Sub-Zero, fans can expect appearances from a variety of other characters, including:

  • Vampirella
  • Homelander from The Boys
  • Annabelle the doll

Lee expressed enthusiasm for incorporating characters beyond the traditional DC universe, stating, “We thought it would be really cool to pull in characters from outside the DC multiverse and kind of spice things up.”

A Unique Place in DC Canon

This crossover marks a historic moment, as it will be the first time a Mortal Kombat character officially enters the DC universe’s cannon within a major comic book storyline. Although previous collaborations have occurred, including the 2015 Mortal Kombat X comics and the 2008 video game Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, this initiative enhances a longstanding relationship between the two franchises.

Background and Anticipation

During the panel, Lee shared a nostalgic moment, recalling how he would listen to Mortal Kombat music while working late into the night, blending creativity with rhythm. He humorously teased fans about a potential “Death of Sub-Zero Anniversary Special,” leaving some to wonder if he was serious.

Fans eagerly await the release of the untitled DC K.O. special issue in February 2026. As New York Comic Con 2025 continues through October 12, anticipation for this unprecedented crossover event is set to grow, offering a unique blend of iconic characters.
