Saimon Oliveira Significantly Overweight at UFC Rio Weigh-Ins

In an unexpected turn of events at the UFC Rio weigh-ins, Brazilian bantamweight Saimon Oliveira significantly missed the weight limit for his upcoming bout. Scheduled to compete against Luan Lacerda, Oliveira weighed in at 144 pounds, exceeding the bantamweight limit by eight pounds, even with a one-pound allowance for non-title fights.

Saimon Oliveira’s Weigh-In Mishap

The weigh-in occurs ahead of the UFC event in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday. Lacerda successfully made weight at 136 pounds, meeting the division’s requirements.

Catchweight Bout Confirmed

As a result of Oliveira’s weight miss, their fight will proceed as a catchweight bout. Oliveira will also incur a fine, granting Lacerda 50 percent of his purse. Additionally, he must not exceed 155 pounds when he arrives at the arena on fight day.

Main Event Weigh-Ins

On the brighter side for the Oliveira family, Charles Oliveira, a prominent figure on the card, successfully weighed in at 156 pounds for his main event fight against Mateusz Gamrot. Gamrot, stepping in on short notice for the injured Rafael Fiziev, also weighed 156 pounds, ensuring a matchup at the lightweight limit.

Co-Main Event Highlights

In the co-main event, bantamweight contenders Deiveson Figueiredo and Montel Jackson both made the cut, weighing in at 136 pounds, adding to the intensity of the night.

Additional Weigh-In Notes

Weigh-ins can often involve drama, and this session was no exception. Valter Walker, despite his bout against Mohammed Usman being canceled due to medical issues on Usman’s side, stepped onto the scale. Walker weighed in at 246 pounds and expressed his frustration, shouting in Portuguese about Usman backing out.
