Ford Re-Recalls 389,000 Cars to Fix Unresolved Issues
Ford Motor Company has announced a significant re-recall affecting approximately 389,000 vehicles. This decision comes as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to address unresolved issues from previous recalls. The vehicles involved include cars, trucks, and SUVs that had previously been recalled, but repairs were improperly completed.
Details of the Re-Recall
The majority of the vehicles impacted by this re-recall are Ford Focus models produced between 2012 and 2018. A total of 255,404 of these cars are being recalled due to a malfunctioning canister purge valve, which can lead to engine stalling. Every affected Focus is believed to have this defect, which was previously addressed in recall number 18V735. Ford plans to resolve the issue by updating the powertrain control module software.
Other Affected Models
- Ford F-150 (2018-2020): 91,190 trucks are involved due to daytime running lights that may not dim when switching to “Headlamps On.” This problem, which affects all of the said trucks, was incorrectly repaired under recall number 20V097. The fix involves a body control module software update.
- Ford F-150 (2018): 10,742 pickups are facing issues with unintended vehicle movement. This problem arises when the transmission shifter is quickly moved from Park to Drive, potentially causing an accidental selection of Reverse or Neutral. This defect is included in recall number 17V669, with a PCM software update as the proposed fix.
- Ford F-150 (2017): 4,445 trucks are being recalled due to an issue where the instrument panel could lose power in cold conditions. This affects all units and stems from recall number 17V053, with a software update planned to resolve it.
- Ford Escape (2017): 18,124 SUVs are involved due to an automatic window reversal function that may exert excessive force. This problem was poorly resolved during recall number 16V617, and a power window OS software update is required to fix it.
- Ford Focus (2015-2018) and Ford Fusion (2013-2016): 5,252 units related to recall numbers 18V169 and 18V845 are being recalled due to a faulty clutch that can fracture, leading to transmission fluid leaks. A software update is set to address the issue.
- Ford Mustang (2019) and Lincoln (2019): 4,151 vehicles, including Mustangs and Lincoln navigators, are being recalled for an instrument panel cluster assembly that may fail, resulting in a blank display. The vehicles’ previous repair under recall number 19V076 was inadequate, and a software update is necessary to resolve the problem.
