Kora Joins IATA’s Global Network to Boost African Airline Payments

In a significant development for the African aviation sector, Kora has joined the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Financial Gateway (IFG). This collaboration will transform how airlines manage and process payments across Africa.

Kora’s Role in Boosting African Airline Payments

The integration allows international airlines and travel agencies that utilize the IFG to streamline their payment processes in Africa. Kora’s payment infrastructure supports various methods, including:

  • Credit and debit cards
  • Bank transfers
  • Mobile money
  • Local payment solutions

This eliminates the need for airlines to establish separate payment arrangements for each country, thereby addressing a critical challenge faced by carriers operating on the continent.

Tackling Payment Complexities in Africa

The African airline industry has long struggled with a disjointed payment landscape. Airlines have had to navigate different local systems and currency issues, particularly in major markets such as Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Egypt, and South Africa.

With Africa expected to attract over 300 million additional air passengers by 2050, addressing these payment complications is vital for sustaining growth in the aviation sector.

Comments from Industry Leaders

Kora’s CEO, Dickson Nsofor, emphasized that this partnership lays the groundwork for extensive airport service efficiency. He noted that airlines can now focus on expanding their operations in Africa without the burden of complex payment logistics.

Kamil Al-Awadhi, IATA’s regional vice president for Africa and the Middle East, echoed these sentiments. He stated that Kora’s integration enhances IFG’s capabilities, offering IATA’s approximately 370 member airlines improved access to Africa’s payment systems.

This strategic alliance is poised to facilitate smoother, more efficient transactions for airlines across the continent, fostering the growth of air travel in Africa.
