Ohtani Rejoins Dodgers Lineup Saturday Against White Sox

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani rejoined the team’s lineup on Saturday for their game against the Chicago White Sox. He was positioned as the leadoff batter and took on the role of designated hitter.

Ohtani’s Recent Injury and Recovery

Ohtani missed the previous game against the White Sox due to left knee inflammation, which developed during Thursday’s match against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He exited that game in the seventh inning as a precautionary measure, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

Prior to the game on Friday, Ohtani underwent imaging studies that returned clean results. Roberts noted that Ohtani felt fine and highlighted that the swelling in Ohtani’s knee was minimal. “It’s just the normal wear and tear,” he explained. “I initially thought it was a hamstring issue, but it turned out to be the knee.”

Ohtani’s Performance This Season

At 31 years old, Ohtani is having an impressive season. He is currently batting .305, with 13 home runs and 40 RBIs across 67 games for the Dodgers, who lead the National League West division.

On the pitching side, the reigning NL MVP boasts a record of 6-2 and an outstanding 1.06 ERA from 11 starts. He is also expected to make his next pitching appearance on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Previous Knee Surgery and Current Status

Ohtani had previously undergone surgery on his left knee in September 2019. Roberts emphasized that the swelling is mostly at the back of the knee, a typical area for such tenderness. Fortunately, Ohtani has maintained a good range of motion, which reassures the team regarding his recovery.
