In a strategic move to bolster their defense, the Florida Panthers have secured the transfer of defenseman Emil Pieniniemi from the Pittsburgh Penguins. The announcement comes from Bill Zito, the President of Hockey Operations and General Manager of the Panthers.

In the deal, the Panthers exchanged the rights to forward Oliver Okuliar for Pieniniemi, who is now set to join the team’s defensive lineup.
Player Background and Performance
Emil Pieniniemi, 21, has had an impactful season playing in various leagues. He participated in nine games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League (AHL) during the 2025-26 season. In these games, he registered three points, consisting of one goal and two assists.
His playoff performance was notable as well. Pieniniemi contributed with an assist in two postseason matches. In addition, he played for the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL, where he scored 11 points across 26 games, leading all Wheeling defensemen in scoring. This included a remarkable performance in the Kelly Cup playoffs, where he achieved eight points in 15 games.
