Morkel stated, “That’s definitely part of our thinking and our vision – to give ourselves options for that World Cup in South Africa.” He highlighted that playing under the Indian banner presents its own challenges and opportunities.

The bowling coach shared encouraging insights about Yadav and Brar after observing them in training. “They seemed comfortable, as if they had been part of the squad for years. There was no visible nervousness, which is impressive for newcomers,” Morkel noted.

While the immediate goal is to compete against Afghanistan, Morkel reiterated that the management’s vision extends beyond this series. He pointed out the need for continual improvement, especially in the white-ball format leading up to the World Cup.
“For me, it is just taking the learnings from South Africa and New Zealand and looking for improvement in our white-ball game,” he added. Morkel’s focus is on making incremental improvements to ensure that the team peaks at the right time for the World Cup in 2027.
